LDPE is often overlooked as a plastic. Not because of any failings in its abilities, but because of its versatility. We use it for almost everything, and by extension, we can sometimes take it for granted. But why tell you about it when we have a dandy little limerick that we can share with you.

An LDPE limerick

Much like a trend that's expanding
We need a firm understanding
Low-density specs
Are best with the flex
Various forms are commanding
The package that comes with a wrap
Odors and vapors can trap
You cannot be beat
When sealing up meat
It makes other wraps say, Oh, snap!

L-D-P-E has its uses
Its nature can take the abuses
Its squeezable ways
Makes versatile plays
And has great disdain for excuses

There's more if you'll listen and see
L-D-P-E is a treat
It's real viable
and recycl'ble
It's better than p'llutin' the sea

Translation for the poetry haters: LDPE is the most widely used polymer. It’s incredibly flexible and perfect for uses where more rigid plastics are not as well suited. Rarely used in caps, LDPE makes a great barrier against air and water. Like its cousin HDPE it’s one of the easiest plastics to recycle. LDPE is marked with the number 4 for easy identification.
