Do you ever stare up at the stars, wondering who, or what, is up there? What would it be like to travel to the far reaches of space? And if you had the chance to explore the galaxy, what would you take with you? Well Matt from our IT department was lucky enough to travel to an ice-covered planet in search of the perfect sprayer. And thus the calendar wallpaper for February was born: Intersprayer.

Inspiration for Intersprayer

This month's calendar is borrowed from the movie Interstellar. This Oscar-winning movie from 2014 was directed by Christopher Nolan and starred Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, and Jessica Chastain. When Earth is on the brink of desolation from drought and famine, a team of explorers travels to the ends of the universe trying to find another inhabitable planet where they can relocate Earth's remaining population. The Intersprayer calendar wallpaper replaces Matthew McConaughey with our IT Director Matt. Matt has left his loved ones at home and at CPS in search for a sprayer that will save Earth.

Pumps, Sprayers, and Gravity

A few months ago we learned a little bit about how sprayers work. Sprayers use piston pumps to move liquids in one direction. Here's an amazing thing about pumps: they can work without gravity! That means that they can work in outer space! Don't believe me? Then place your hand on your chest. Feel that thump-thump in there? That's your heart, your very own one-directional pump moving blood through your body. And plenty of astronauts have shown us that their hearts keep pumping even when they are floating in space with no gravity. So when Matt finds his perfect sprayer, he will be able to use it out in the galaxy because it doesn't need gravity. Though honestly, if he had been thinking clearly before he left, he might have realized that there are dozens of sprayers at Container & Packaging Supply that work just fine. Some people like to take things to extremes. And he did have his eye set on being the first CPS employee astronaut.

No guarantees that a sprayer will actually save Earth, but we aren't going to tell Matt that yet. He still has years left to travel across the universe to get home, and we are going to let him enjoy his journey.
