Highlights and News
Glass history 101 - No one knows exactly when or where glass was first made. Glass appears to have been produced as far back as the second millennium BC by the Egyptians & perhaps the Phoenicians. Certainly, one of the first items to be made were glass jars. Glass jar containers were not easy to make in the early days (2000BC). When glass making technology reached Egypt they used a method called core-forming. A shaped core was made of clay and dung, then molten glass was wrapped around it and shaped by rolling it on a smooth surface. It was a time consuming process and took a true master to make a glass bottle. Glass blowing was discovered around the end of the 1st century BC. By blowing through a hollow tube, the experienced glassblower can quickly produce glass jars and other complex items out of the molten glass at the end of his tube.
